About AIKIDO

O' Sensei

Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art developed by Morihei Ueshiba

(often referred to by his title "O' Sensei" or "Great Teacher"). It is and art involving joint locks and projections derived from jiu-jitsu in particular Daito Ryu Jiu-jitsu and Ken-jitsu or sword fighting.  Aikido is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.

There are no competitions or tournaments in Aikido. Rank is awarded through a testing procedure that which emphasizes self-control rather than competing with others.

Practice focuses on the development of technical skills and awareness through constant repetition of techniques in a controlled environment.
